Problem/Scope:

IT Security Support contract to maintain and improve network monitoring services for the US Department of State’s (DOS) critical monitoring tools which were outside the warranty of official vendor support.

Solution:

J5 Consulting provided System Engineering SMEs to the US Department of State’s Enterprise Operations Team to support and redesign DOS’ aging network monitoring tools as follows:

Solution Points:

  • Established reliable indicators for failure detection to eliminate “gaps’ in DOS’ aging monitoring systems by developing workarounds for detecting system problems and failures.
  • Developed scripting protocols to automate DOS’ monitoring system’s manual processes.
  • Stabilized the existing monitoring tools and established a more reliable monitoring experience for DOS’ aging systems prior to transitioning to a successor system.

Result/Benefit:

J5’s solutions enabled DOS to successfully remodel the retiring system to establish a minimum level of service criteria for the new monitoring system as well as reduced the risk of downtime caused by a lack of visibility into DOS’ global networking enterprise.
